And the sewing starts!

Well, the first stitches went in on the weekend. How exciting! First to go in was the interfacing in the front sections of the coat. I'm not convinced yet that the interfacing I bought isn't too stiff, now that I've got a bit more of the coat done; when I make this coat again I think I'll use a lightweight interfacing instead of medium weight - I think it'll hang much nicer. But, we'll see when I'm done.

First stitches go in!

And then in go the pockets!

Yay for pockets!! Look at the pretty lining :)
So far the pockets seem to hang a little funny. But we'll see when the coat is actually put together. Hmmm.... Anyway, then I stitched the back together, pressed it, and then top-stitched it.

Yay! The back is together.

Top-stitching the back side of the coat

So far, I really love the wool. It's been easy to work with and presses pretty well. The colour is of course fantastic. I was worried about aligning the herringbone pattern when putting everything together, but the pattern is so fine that it really hasn't been a problem.

More to come after this weekend; I'll be putting the sides together, the collar on and starting on the lining. It feels like it's coming along rather quickly!
